Indoor Air Quality / Mold
10 Common Myths about Mold
Myth 1: All molds are toxic. Mold is a naturally occuring biological contaminant - mycrotoxins are primarially produced by molds.
Myth 2 : Only people who live in a humid, wet climate have to worry about mold. Water Incursion and damp buildings are the primary sources of mold. Mold can survive almost anywhere there is water and humidity.
Myth 3 : Some surfaces can be immune to mold. Mold can grow on any surface that has water and humidity present.
Myth 4: If you don't see mold you don't have mold. By the time you are aware of the mold you have a significant problem.
Myth 5 : Effective regulations and laws are in place to deal with this issue. Mold is a naturally occuring biological contaminant - mycrotoxins are primarially produced by molds.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) consulting services includes a wide array of services. Currently, ACT has developed a consulting service focused on fungal / mold issues with the in-house laboratory for client’s ease; however, ACT does respond to all IAQ concerns such as radon, carbon monoxide, or nuisance dust testing.
IAQ Investigation Services – Fungal/Mold
Depending on our client’s needs, ACT performs mold investigations at residences and/or work environments to document the extent of water damage to identifying a water source. Upon requests, ACT visits a site, takes notes from the resident/occupant as to what problems have been noticed, collects air samples in areas of concern, and pulls tape (surface) samples from suspect growth sites. ACT also performs clearance investigations where mold remediation activities have occurred; a non-bias clearance inspector is critical in some situations. ACT strives to best access the situation for proper repair activities and to provide the client with the proper documentation (i.e. re-sale purposes).
For more detailed investigations, ACT provides sampling of chemical agent levels or culture sampling for fungal and bacterial contaminations.
IAQ Abatement Specifications, Abatement Monitoring, Maintenance
ACT understands the importance in properly documenting fungal/mold projects from the beginning to the end. ACT provides specifications to contractors detailing a clients needs for remediation, provides monitoring to document activities meeting all standards, owner concerns, and future owner concerns, and assists in developing a maintenance program to monitor future water damage issues or suspect growth areas. ACT performs a multitude of services to accommodate client’s needs; please inquire!
IAQ Laboratory Services
ACT Laboratory is currently participating in the AIHA EMPAT program to document accuracy in analyzing fungal/mold samples. The laboratory analysts, trained at McCrone Research Institute, are efficient in analyzing fungal/mold air samples from an array of samplers, tape (surface) samples, and fungal cultures. ACT Laboratory is also performing nuisance dust analysis; however, other IAQ laboratory services are submitted to nationally accredited laboratories.
