Laboratory Services

The objective of the ACT Laboratory is to provide clients with timely and accurate sample results. To meet our objective, ACT Laboratory is a participant with the Proficiency Analytical Testing Programs (PAT) through the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) for asbestos, lead, and mold. We are also involved in an inter-laboratory exchange program (round robin) with other AIHA Accredited Laboratories. To ensure intra-laboratory quality control, analysts perform analyses on Reference Materials and Blind Recounts.

The ACT Laboratory provides analysis for asbestos in air samples through Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis and suspect asbestos containing bulk materials through Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). ACT is accredited by the AIHA in the industrial hygiene program for both PCM and PLM analysis. We believe that AIHA accreditation ensures the quality of our analysis to meet clients’ needs. This is further reinforced by ACT’s regulated Quality Assurance Program, which monitors a high standard of quality.

In an effort to better serve our clients, the laboratory has recently expanded to include in-house leadanalyses of paint, soil, water, and air by means of Atomic Absorption Spectrometry . All analysts are thoroughly trained in the analysis and maintain a rigorous quality assurance program. The laboratory is currently enrolling to participate in the Environmental Lead Proficiency Analytical Testing (ELPAT) program to be AIHA accredited.

The laboratory has also expanded to include indoor air quality analysis of fungal (mold) tape samples, a variety of air cassettes, and fungal viable cultures. ACT participates in a fungal inter-laboratory exchange (round robin) with other laboratories and the Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (EMPAT) program in an effort to produce quality results.

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for all sample analysis. Laboratory personnel have completed courses in Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos Dust (NIOSH 582 or equivalent) for PCM, Polarized Light Microscopy courses from the prestigious McCrone Research Institute in Chicago for Asbestos Identification for PLM, and indoor air quality analysis training from the McCrone Research Institute Chicago, Illinois for the analysis of fungal air and tape samples.

ACT strives to provide accurate results in a timely manner. Several analyses are provided on a standard 24-hour turn-around-time basis at no additional charge. RUSH turn-around-time (1 hour – after hours) service is available on all of our services for an additional fee. Please call the laboratory at 756-9320 for further information and analysis specific pricing!
